Faleminderit! Shpendët e Shqipërisë
OBSERVATION OF NEW BIRD SPECIES IN THE PROTECTED LANDSCAPE VJOSË-NARTË
For the second time in October, the bird list of the Vjose-Narte Protected Landscape is enriched with a new species. This time we are talking about the Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea).
The precursor survey of this species in Albania was reported by the Albanian Ornithological Society in 2017, where an individual was photographed in Divjake-Karavasta National Park. It is mentioned in this reporting that even in 2014 another dead individual of this species has been found. Earlier reports for this species in Albania are almost completely missing, although the species is included in few lists or publications on birds of Albania. Therefore, this observation may represent the third in the country for this species.
Greece and Bulgaria are the most western countries in Europe where this species has been reported as nesting. Ruddy Shelduck has a very wide distribution range: almost in all Asia, in the Middle East as well as in some coastal countries of sub-equatorial Africa.
If anyone has encountered or has information on other surveys of this this species in Albania, is asked to please share the information with us.
Thank you!
